Undoubtedly this is one of India's most spectacular park. The dense forest
cover & Mekal river provided the inspiration for Rudyard Kiplings book.
This park is located at the center of the wild Madhya Predesh.
The Kanha park was started in 1955 with an ambition to protect Barasingha
(a swamp deer). The park came under Projet Tiger in 1974 & has grown
into one of the largest parks in India. At nearly 2000 sq. Km Kanha is one
of the largest parks & after Sunderban, home of the largest population
of Tiger.
Description :
Kanha National Park is Kipling country and the nearby forests were the
setting for the "Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling. It's an
outstanding national park and wildlife reserve of Central India, noted for
its last remaining population of the hard-ground race of the Swamp Deer
(approximately 380). Spotting wild animals is always a matter of luck, but
Kanha is so rich in wildlife that the odds are titled in your favour. Most
people are keener to meet Kanha's most famous citizen: the
Indian Tiger. Thereare a
healthy numbers of the Tiger found over here, which may be seen during the
day, and is one of the best places left to see them.
Diverse Fauna
The dense cover of forest is good breeding grounds for approximately 200
species of birds The herbivores in park are Chetal, Sambar & Blue bull,
whereas the predators are Jackal, Leopard, Hyena & of- course the Tiger.
Kanha is one of the best National Park in India & has been known as one
of the best parks in the world to see the Tiger in the wild. The visitor
interpretation centre both inside and around the park makes your visit quite
entertaining.

Diverse
Flora
The forests are deciduous, the main tree being the Sal, and there are large
stands of bamboo. Higher up the slopes the forests tend to become dense and
mixed with Haldu and Bija trees. Birds in the park include the Painted
Partridge, Shaheen Falcon and Golden Oriole.
