Being
an adventure lover since child hood, my first love is trekking on the high
peaks of Indian Himalayas. I had explored all trekking options in India
along with my father, as he himself is a trekker zealot. This time, I wanted
to share my adventure journey with my friends.
TManali to Deo Tibba, Spiti to Lahaul, Kullu and Kangra valleys in Himachal
Pradesh, north of Rishikesh in Uttar Pradesh, Darjeeling in West Bengal,
Yuksam in Sikkim and Leh and Ladakh in Kashmir valley are some of the main
trekking center India enjoys.
Himachal Pradesh has vast opportunities of trekking bonanza. From moderate
to vigorous routes, the best season to trek over here is during the months
of June to October.
This time I opted to trek on the land of Himachal Pradesh, along the Spiti
Lahaul route. From Delhi we booked the tour to Manali as I has never tried
trekking on this trek before. We booked a 4 wheeled drive and started early
in the morning from Delhi and reached Manali in the night almost covering
the distance of 570 kms. We checked in the hotel. A luxurious dinner waited
for us as we had gone for prior booking. The accommodation was quite
comfortable with all modern facilities. Rooms were also equipped with
television facility. I could enjoy some programs over a cup of coffee.
Early morning we started our trekking adventure. From Manali to Rohtang
Pass we covered a distance of 51-km non-stop, a pretty long and hard
stretch. Our guide acquainted us about the town, its culture and its people.
The valley was filled with orchards of apricots, peaches, apples and pine
trees, some of us tried these fresh fruits directly from the trees, it was
just a fabulous sight. The town is lying on the ancient trade route between
India and Tibet, are protected by the majestic mountains of the Himalayan.
Our halt at Rohtang Pass was really relaxing, the splendid view of the snow
capped peaks, pine-forested slopes, and lush green meadows of wild flowers
that grow in this land were beyond description. The crew was energetic again
and we started for Keylong. For night we had different itinerary, there was
a camp accommodation with bonfire. Fire was must, as it had become an
important factor at that time.
There was no end to adventure and fun, next morning after breakfast we
started our 18-km trek to the village of Spiti and Lahaul. It was a real
hard trek as some of us were feeling breathlessness but taking long breath
was really exciting and testing. Our guide who was encouraging us on the
entire route does not leave the opportunity and remarked that when you
struggle more you can enjoy more of trekking adventure. As we advance ahead
in search of escapade, the views of flowers blossoming in abundance and
countless butterflies flying over our heads imbibed us with fresh energy,
that we never felt exhausted. By the evening we reached out destination of
Spiti and Lahaul village.
Trekking in the Himalayas has always been an exhilarating experience.
Adventure never ends here rather it opens up new prospect for the
chivalrous. With a scenic beauty brimming with high mountain valleys,
stream, lakes and rows of wild flowers, Himachal Pradesh was a real gift for
our eyes. In fact, anyone with an eye for the majestic beauty of nature will
fall for this place.
